Activity Summary Tips. With USC’s first-year application deadline

for merit scholarship consideration coming up on December 1st, numerous students are putting the finishing touches on the application. The Application that is common provides section for students to discuss their principal extracurricular, volunteer, and work activities. As admission counselors we know that every student will probably spend their time outside the class pursuing activities that are different so we thought it was important to fairly share some guidelines and misconceptions regarding this part of the application.

Tip: Focus regarding the activities that are the main to you. We’re many thinking about what has influenced you and your life, be it taking care of your younger siblings after college, publishing poetry become published, or playing in your school’s soccer team.

Misconception: ‘Applicants need to own a certain quantity of community service hours to be competitive within the college admission procedure.’

The facts is it’s okay if community solution plays a role that is huge your life or even a small one. We’re not focused on making sure candidates meet a certain list of types of involvements. At the end of the time, we’re most interested in that you are pursuing your interests and interests in some capacity.

Suggestion: Explain the organizations with which you’ve been included! Although some acronyms are widely understood, such as ASB for Associated scholar Body, we may not be acquainted with every nickname. Never assume that the social people reading your application are familiar with every task offered at your school or in your community.

Misconception: ‘Colleges are just interested in knowing that students keep busy. As long as you join lots of organizations, you’re set.’

We hope to see applicants who have dedicated themselves to a few activities that interest them, rather compared to a laundry list of plenty of involvements. It’s not essential just how many organizations you join, but what you did being a member or leader in that organization

Tip: we understand that students are going to have varying amounts of time to dedicate to different things while we are looking for students who are well-rounded and will contribute to our campus. High school students have a lot on their plate: challenging courses, family obligations, trying to keep a balanced life and hopefully have a blast at the time that is same! Verify you and your interests come through into the application so on you and played a role in your life that we can better understand what experiences have had an impact.
